Chapter Four

Trip woke up the next morning and immediately sensed he was alone in bed. Easton was gone. There was a note next to him on the bed. Thanks for the wonderful evening. I’m heading into work at the University Hospital. I’ll be home later. You don’t need to worry about me. You can go if you need to. Easton.

Trip looked at the name for a really long time before he rolled out of bed. He couldn’t believe his sub had left without saying good-bye. This was something he wouldn’t be able to tolerate very long. He had to make sure Easton was aware of the rules before they took this thing further. Trip dressed and got ready for work. He had to let Kade know that the wild wolves were on the move. Not to mention he had to finally confess what was going on with him. He had spent way too long hiding who he was and what he was doing there.

Part of his mission was under the radar as it was. Although he couldn’t do that any longer. He drove across town to Kade’s place. As usual, his house was hopping with activity. There were a lot of people coming and going and trying to figure out things Kade needed to get done to protect the pack. Trip found him in the kitchen with Maddox. They were still planning their wedding.

“Trip,” Kade said.

“We need to talk. Do you have a minute to talk privately?” Trip asked.

Kade indicated the deck with a nod of his head. They went outside into the bright morning sunshine. They headed away from the house, moving closer to the lush forest that surrounded the house.

“What’s going on?” Kade asked.

“There’s something I should’ve told you a long time ago. I need to tell you everything today.”

They were just outside the Black Forest where the birds were chirping and singing. If they went closer to the forest, no sound of wildlife would exist at all. Trip had to talk with Kade about the mystery of the Ancient Ones and what they were doing there.

Trip was nervous when he was alone with his Alpha. There was something deadly about him that would put any beta on edge. Still, Trip wasn’t intimidated by him. He exuded power and complete control of the pack. Right now, his leadership was being questioned by a few for his inability to keep control of the wild wolves within the Black Forest. Kade couldn’t keep control and keep tabs on everyone within the pack as Alpha.

“What’s going on?” Kade asked.

“I was hunting in the Black Forest yesterday and saw the wild wolves going after one of their own. I stopped them and prevented them from killing the wolf.”

“Oh? Why were they going after him?”

“Apparently, he decided to leave his pack. They don’t let anyone ever leave. They kill them.”

Kade shook his head. “We should let them kill each other off.”

“Easton was innocent. He was without a pack. He got caught up with the wrong men.
